THE AUSSIE SPEED SHOWDOWN!

Top Gear Festival Sydney, hosted by Jeremy Clarkson, James May, The Stig and Australian co-host Shane Jacobson, have made a major announcement today of epic Top Gear proportions. Top Gear Festival Sydney has secured Casey Stoner who, for the first time since his retirement, will return to a bike – a Honda CBR1000, on track at Sydney Motorsport Park to race against Infiniti Red Bull Racing F1 team superstar Mark Webber and reigning V8 Supercar champion Jamie Whincup in the Red Bull Racing Australia V8. This never before seen race – The Aussie Speed Showdown - will be an unmissable event for any motorsport fan.
With three of the most famous Australian racing drivers at the helm, The Aussie Speed Showdown will see Casey, Mark and Jamie race around the Festival's world class Sydney.com North Circuit at Sydney Motorsport Park, at full speed in a battle to see who’s the best.
Casey Stoner will also be taking on Craig Lowndes in a unique Top Gear challenge: ‘Fish out of Water’ where Stoner will be behind the wheel of Craig’s Red Bull Racing Australia V8 and Craig will be on a Suzuki GSX-R1000 Superbike. It will be the first time that Sydney will see Casey in the driver’s seat of a V8 Supercar, Adelaide being his first public appearance in the V8 the week before.
These once in a lifetime race challenges are just the latest announcements of what will take place at the greatest outdoor motoring festival on earth, the first ever Top Gear Festival Sydney at Sydney Motorsport Park, Eastern Creek for one weekend only - and only in Sydney on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th March 2013.
Clarkson said “Stoner versus Webber versus Whincup; three of Australia's fastest men will take to the track in the petrol equivalent of a bare knuckle brawl only Top Gear Festival would dare.”
Shane Jacobson said it is like staging the motorsport Olympics.
“Personally my money is on Webber to wipe the field and take out gold. But then again no one should be too worried as we don't actually have any medals - what we do have is a heap of cars, lots of petrol, loads of people, and two big tracks which all equals a massive amount of fun” he said.
Top Gear Festival Sydneyis proudly supported by the NSW Government, through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, and it is a key event on the NSW Events Calendar. Australia is only the second country in the world to host a Top Gear Festival, and the event is exclusive to Sydney, Australia’s major events capital.
Minister for Tourism and Major Events, George Souris, said staging a race where Casey Stoner returns to a bike at Top Gear Festival Sydney is a real coup for NSW and fans of the sport.
“Top Gear Festival Sydney is attracting the biggest and best names in motoring to it’s schedule and I am delighted attendees from NSW, interstate and oversees will now have the chance to see two-time MotoGP World Champion Casey Stoner in this exclusive race,” Mr Souris said.
“The hi-octane challenge between Casey Stoner, Mark Webber and Jamie Whincup is not to be missed, as well as Casey Stoner’s first ever professional race in a V8 car in NSW. I encourage everyone to visit Sydney Motorsport Park during Top Gear Festival Sydney to experience these once-in-a-lifetime motoring events, live and only in Sydney.”
